Men’s Healing Retreats & Workshops
Safe, inclusive spaces for healing in Aotearoa - built on connection, reflection, and empowerment.
The Road to Healing Aotearoa’s men’s retreats are part of a growing movement of healing in Aotearoa, designed to support recovery through connection, reflection, and empowerment
Each retreat offers a confidential, trauma-informed environment where men can speak openly, share experiences, and learn practical wellbeing tools.
Led by Sam Troth, these programmes are grounded in Kaupapa Māori values and peer-based support - helping participants rebuild trust, strengthen resilience, and move forward in their recovery journey - contributing to the wider Kaupapa of healing in aotearoa
Every retreat combines group kōrero, physical wellbeing activities, and time in nature - providing space for healing to unfold in a supportive, non-judgmental community.

Retreats & Workshops — Frequently Asked Questions
Before You Attend
Who are your retreats or workshops for?
Our retreats are created for men who are ready to step away from the noise of daily life, reconnect with themselves, and find the answers that lie within. They’re built around reflection, self-awareness, and healing in a safe, supportive environment.
Do I need to have experienced sexual harm to attend?
No. While our Kaupapa is grounded in supporting those healing from trauma, our retreats are open to any man healing from trauma, grounding, and reconnection - regardless of the type of experiences they carry.
Are men’s and women’s retreats separate?
At this stage, we only facilitate men’s retreats. Future events may expand to include mixed or women’s spaces, but for now, our focus is on creating safe, transformative environments specifically for men.
Are your retreats drug- and alcohol-free?
Yes - absolutely. All TRTHA events are 100 % drug- and alcohol-free, with no exceptions. This ensures the safety and emotional wellbeing of everyone attending.
How much does it cost to attend?
There is no cost to attend our retreats. However, attendees are responsible for organising their own transport to and from the venue.
Are your events accessible for people with disabilities or chronic illness?
Please contact us using the form above and include a few details about your accessibility needs. We’ll do our best to ensure the venue and program are suitable and can make adjustments wherever possible.
During the Retreat
What if I’m nervous about attending?
It’s completely normal to feel that way. We pride ourselves on creating safe, inclusive environments where participants can arrive exactly as they are. You’ll be supported every step of the way.
Do I have to talk or share my story?
Our retreats are designed to be spaces of transformation and connection. Sharing is encouraged but never forced - you choose what, when, and how much you want to share. You’ll never be pressured to disclose anything that doesn’t feel right for you.
How many people attend each retreat?
Each retreat hosts a small, supportive group - usually between six and twenty participants. This size allows everyone to connect meaningfully while maintaining privacy and safety.
Are workshops different from retreats?
Yes - workshops are shorter and more focused, often running for a few hours to a full day. Retreats, on the other hand, are immersive weekend experiences that typically run from Friday afternoon through to Sunday morning.
Registration & Logistics
How do I register for a retreat or workshop?
Simply complete the Register Your Interest form on this page. We’ll contact you directly when the next retreat or workshop opens.
What happens after I register my interest?
Once you’ve submitted the form, our team will be in touch to share more details about upcoming retreats - including availability, what to expect, and how to confirm your attendance.
What if the retreat is full?
If a retreat has reached capacity, we can add you to our waitlist. You’ll be notified first when new dates or spaces become available.
Is transport provided or do I need to arrange my own travel?
Attendees need to arrange their own transport to and from the venue. In some situations, we may be able to help coordinate travel or offer partial assistance - get in touch if that’s a concern.
After the Retreat
Will there be follow-up support after the event?
Yes. Our connection doesn’t end when the retreat does. We offer continued support, check-ins, and links to other TRTHA pathways and community spaces.
